Mattress Removal Oahu

Old mattresses, box springs, and bed frames picked up and disposed of responsibly. One of our most common calls — we make it easy.

Mattresses Are One of the Most Common Calls We Get

Alongside refrigerators, mattresses are consistently one of the top two items people call us about. The reason is practical: a mattress is one of the bulkiest things in any home, almost impossible to fit in a personal vehicle, and donation centers across Oahu will not accept them. Hawaii's health regulations restrict thrift stores and nonprofits from taking used mattresses, so the options most people rely on for other items simply do not apply here.

Whether you have a single twin from a guest room or a full bedroom set from a Waikiki vacation rental, Opala Kuleana picks it up, handles all the loading, and takes it to the right place — recycled when the condition allows, properly disposed of otherwise.

What We Remove

We handle all mattress types and related bedroom items, including:

  • Twin and twin XL mattresses
  • Full (double) mattresses
  • Queen mattresses
  • King mattresses
  • California king mattresses
  • Box springs (any size)
  • Metal bed frames
  • Wood bed frames and headboards
  • Futon mattresses and frames
  • Crib mattresses
  • Mattress toppers and pads

If you have additional furniture — dressers, nightstands, a bed frame — we take it all in one trip. Mixed loads are handled the same way as a single-item pickup.

Mattress Recycling in Hawaii

Hawaii's limited landfill space makes diverting materials wherever possible a real priority. Mattresses are made of several distinct materials that can each be separated and processed:

  • Metal springs — sent to metal recycling
  • Wood frames — chipped or processed as wood waste
  • Foam padding — limited recycling options in Hawaii; may go to H-POWER
  • Fabric and fiber — processed as textile waste where possible

We prefer to recycle mattresses when the condition allows. Mattresses that are heavily soiled, wet, or showing signs of pest infestation cannot go through recycling and are disposed of directly at Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill or the H-POWER waste-to-energy facility. We sort based on what we see when we pick up.

A Typical Job

A vacation rental manager in Waikiki needed six queen mattresses and box springs removed from a condo being renovated. The building required freight elevator use during off-peak hours, which meant coordinating with building management on timing. We arranged access in advance, arrived during the approved window, and had all six sets loaded and out of the building by noon. The job was done before the renovation crew needed the space.

Single-mattress jobs in Ala Moana and Kapahulu are just as common. A bedroom refresh, a tenant move-out, a spare room being converted — mattress removal comes up constantly across Oahu, and most jobs are straightforward once someone shows up with a truck.

When This Is Not the Right Option

If you are buying a new mattress from a retailer that offers old mattress removal as part of delivery — take advantage of it. Many mattress retailers and delivery services include old mattress haul-away at no extra cost or at a low flat fee. If that option is available to you, it is almost always the most cost-effective choice.

The City and County of Honolulu's bulky item pickup program will also take mattresses. If you can wait for a scheduled pickup date and you are able to move the mattress to the curb yourself, that program may cost less or nothing at all. Where we make the most sense: you need a specific pickup date, the mattress is on an upper floor, you have multiple items to remove at once, or the mattress cannot be moved to the curb without help.

Pricing

Mattress removal is one of our most common single-item pickups. Pricing depends on size, quantity, and whether the job includes a box spring and frame.

  • Single mattress (twin or full): typically $75–$100
  • Queen or king mattress: typically $100–$125
  • Mattress plus box spring and frame: add $25–$50 depending on size
  • Multiple sets: contact us for a quote — volume pricing applies

We confirm pricing before we start. If access is difficult — staircase carry, elevator coordination, tight hallways — we factor that into the quote upfront. No surprises at the end of the job.
