Our Story
Since 2005 we have worked with numerous property managers, homeowners, and businesses cleaning out properties and getting them sale-ready or rent-ready.
In 2019, one of our founders lost all of their belongings in the Nanakuli brush fires. Wanting to help others but not having the resources at the time, we continued with clean outs here and there.
In late 2025, Hawaii experienced numerous storms culminating in a series of Kona low storms. Thousands of families were affected and left with cleaning up all of the aftermath. It was at that point where we knew we had to come up with a plan and take a leap. So our founders formed ʻŌpala Kuleana and Know Leap Strategies.
The name says it all. ʻŌpala is Hawaiian for refuse or garbage. Kuleana means responsibility - the kind of obligation you feel toward something you care about. Putting them together reflects how we approach this work: responsible removal for the place we call home.
What We Do

Introduce us to your problem and we’ll remove it.
We schedule a time to come on site and provide an estimate. Once we’re there and you’ve introduced us to the problem, we take into consideration the truck space, labor required, and disposal fees needed to remove the problem from your premises and clean up the area. If you agree to accept the quote, you sign and pay by cash or credit. Once payment is confirmed, we remove the problem and clean the area. We like to leave the area better than we found it whenever possible.

What Happens After
Depending on the type of items we remove and whether or not they are combustible or require a certain type of disposal procedure, the items will either be incinerated, recycled, or landfilled. Our goal is to ensure that as little goes into the landfill as possible.
Why This Work Matters to Us
Junk removal has a different meaning for those of us who were born and raised here. Being part of a system that is making it our kuleana to keep the ʻāina clean hits different when you are part of the process of removing each item one by one.
Being able to help elderly Kūpuna who may be on a fixed income at a reasonable price really means a lot to us. Respecting and helping literally lift a burden from their lives really brightens their days.
What many people don’t realize is we are there to help them during very important life events. Moving, downsizing, evictions, renovations, storm cleanups, estate cleanups, and selling a home can be extremely stressful. Everyone on our team can relate or has personally been there.
When We Leave
What we want people to feel is like they have made a new friend who specializes in junk removal - instead of that sinking feeling when you spend your money and walk away regretting it. We want to leave them with a good memory of a good experience.
Why We’re Different
Choosing us means having someone who was born and raised here on your team. We’re Hawaiian owned, based on Oahu, and committed to serving our community with honest pricing, dependable service, and genuine Aloha. We’re not a corporate national chain, but we give that corporate national-level experience.
Unlike bulky pickup, you don’t lift a finger or wait weeks. We remove items from wherever they are, clean up afterward, donate and recycle whenever possible, and treat every home as if it were our own hale.
Our drivers hold Type 3 and CDL licenses, and we handle every job with professionalism and care.
